Soil and Field Preparation

  • Sugarbeet can be grown in all kinds of Soil but well drained ,deep ,friable, loam soil is best suited.
  • It is sensitive to acidic soils but thrives well in soil having pH as high as 9-10.
  • One deep ploughing with MB plough followed with 2-3 cross harrowing should be done.
  • Planking is done after ploughing and proper level is maintained so that water may not stand in the crop field.

Manure and Fertilizer

  • Basal Application of 12.5-ton FYM/ha is done.
  • 75 kg of Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium each is applied at basal stage and 35kg of Nitrogen each at 25 and 50 DAS is done.
  • Basal Application of 5 kg Azospirillium and 5 kg of Phosphobacteria is also done. (5kg is equivalent to 25 pockets .i.e:5 pockets=1 kg )
  • The deficiency of boron in sugarbeet can cause Heart Rot or Crown Rot (Leaves are smaller than normal , plant is dwarf, mottling and longitudinal splitting of leaves takes place leading necrotic crown),so Borax @10-12 kg/ha in the soil or foliar application of Boric acid (0.2%) at 2-3 times during vegetative stage is done.
  • Similarly , deficiency of manganese can cause Speckled yellows (plant shows yellowish green chlorotic mottled areas leading necrosis of leaves), so application of Manganese Sulphate @5-10 kg /ha or its foliar application(0.25%) is done 2-3 times during its vegetative stage.
