Introduction

• CITES refers to the conviction on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora and is widely accepted international treaties.
• It protects endangered species and limits the illicit trade in wildlife among nations.
• The conviction attempts:

a) To prevent commercial trade in species of wild life which are in danger of extinction.

b) To control and monitor the trade in species which might become so if their trade remain unchecked.

To safeguard biological species from being extinction.

The treaty recognizes three categories of species as listed in APPENDICES
