Management

I. During establishment:

  • container must be shallow, should be as natural as possible (generally black, green or brown), size depends upon the specimen and drainage hole at the bottom of the container.
  • Nearly neutral pH soil will not become waterlogged. Good compost will be made up of 2 parts of good fibrous loam: 1.5 parts coarse river sand and 1 part leaf mould.
  • Pinching of tip is essential that keeps the plant dwarf.
  • Straight bonsai should be planted in the centre of the pan whereas cascade style should be on
  • one side.
  • Place the pebbles over the surface which will prevent the soil from becoming hard due to water falling directly over soil. Planted plant in the pan should be kept in a shade and watering is done.

II. After establishment:

  • Pruning root and shoot is periodically required to maintain the root and shoot balance and to maintain the shape of bonsai, the plants needs to be watered, fertilized and placed under appropriate environmental conditions at all times.
