Field Preparation
- 2 – 3 ploughing and leveling should be done. The winter crops should be planted in flat beds whereas the rainy crop should be planted in ridges for easy drainage of excess water.
- Seed rate:- 2 Kg/ha.
- Spacing:- RR= 30 cm, PP= 20 cm.
a) Manure and Fertilizer
- FYM: 20 tons/ha. And
- 60: 40: 40 Kg NPK/ha.
- All amount of FYM , Phosphorus, Potash and half dose of nitrogen is applied at final land preparation and half dose of nitrogen is applied in split dose during vegetative growth.
b) Irrigation
- Being a short season crop its water requirement is low.
- 2 – 3 irrigation is adequate during the crop period.
c) Interculture
- 2 hoeing and 2 weeding is necessary.
Harvesting and Yield
- Leaves become ready for harvest in 40 – 50 days after transplanting.
- Leaves are harvested as in broad leaf mustard without damaging the plant.
- Leaves are harvested regularly for a longer period 6 – 8 months in mid and high hills area.
- Yield:- 20 – 30 tons/ha.
