Harvesting

  • Cumin matures in about 100-150 days of seed sowing
  • When seed matures, the whole plant turns brownish yellow
  • The plants are uprooted or cut with sickle

 

Threshing and Cleaning

  • After harvesting, small bundle are made.
  • Spreaded on threshing floor till they dry properly
  • Seeds are threshed with sticks

 

Cleaning, Drying and Storage

  • After threshing, the product is cleaned and winnowed carefully
  • Chaff, small seeds, clods are removed
  • Seeds are dried in the sun for 2-3 days
  • The dried seeds are packed in sacks and stored in dry rooms
  • Seed yield: – 4 – 6qts/hac.
