Irrigation wells
- A water well is a hydraulic hole in the earth down to supply of water excavated for the purpose of bringing ground water to the surface.
- Well, serve as subsurface exploration and observation, artificial ground water recharge and disposal of sewage and industrial wastages.
- Flow of ground water into well is influenced by the physical characteristics of the water bearing formations, the number of extents of these formations, the elements of well design and the methods used for constructing and developing the wells.
Ground water and Aquifer:
- Formations or strata within the saturated zone below the ground surface from which groundwater can be obtained for beneficial use, are called aquifer.
- In other words, aquifers are permeable geologic formations that permits appreciable amount of water to move through them.
- Or, Aquifer is the porous medium soil or sand from which significant amount of water can be drawn.
- Generally, there are two types of aquifer:
a) Unconfined aquifer
b) Confined aquifer
