Objectives of Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management (DSCWM)

  • To maintain good balance in the ecology by reducing the stress on the environment through conservation and development of important watersheds.
  • To maintain the productivity of the land through developing infrastructure with scientific management of watershed.

 

Approach adopted by department of soil conservation and watershed management

1) Land use development planning:

  • this plan is basis for rational utilization and management ofm watershed resources.

The main activities carried in this program are;

  • Sub watershed prioritization
  • Watershed management planning
  • Sub watershed management planning
  • Technical service for land use development

 

2) Community Integrated Watershed Management Program

  • This program includes following;

a) Land productivity conservation

  • It helps to develop and improve productivity of land on the basis of land capabilities.
  • It involves following practice, terrace improvement fruit tree planting fodder grass plantation, agroforestry, and grazing management.

b) Development infrastructure protection and development

  • Development on the basis of reservoir, irrigation, roads, and other with the aim of improving economic life of development infrastructure

c)Natural hazard prevention
