Preventing Soil erosion

a) Cover up susceptible soil

b) Always grow plants

• Absorb water that can lead to runoff
• Roots hold soil intact
• Decrease impact of rain before it hits soil, decreasing erosion effectiveness

c) Minimize uncovered soil

d) Use fertilizer or dead animal remains

e) Use crop rotations

f) Allow plants to grow in their natural environments

g) Do something about water bodies

• Stop water flow by putting logs, stones, or sticks
• Fix erosion gullies by placing fertile soil
