Action Plan for Forest Rangeland Management

A) Policy: Encourage community participation in forest management.

     Action: Continue to promote community forestry schemes in hills.

 

B) Policy: Improve rangeland management.

     Action:

a) Undertake strategic assessment of Nepal’s Rangelands to improve knowledge.

b) Classify the institutional responsibilities between MOF and MOA for rangeland management.

 

C) Policy: Reorientation of forestry research

     Action: Develop programmes to provide information for user groups, forest industries and private individuals.

 

D) Policy: Improve the basis of land utilization for more economic return.

 Action: Adopt a land use policy classifying areas by their suitability for alternative use.

 

E) Policy: Creation of awareness of the importance of forest conservation.

     Action: Develop forest extension agent’s role based on promotion and persuasion rather than enforcement.

 

G) Policy: Minimize adverse environmental impacts of forest related projects.

     Action: Finalize Environmental Impact Assessment guidelines for forestry sector.

 

H) Policy: Promote Research and Development (R & D) of alternative energy sources.

Action: Incorporate alternative energy development and promotion as an integral part of this strategy.
