Action Plan for Land Management

1. Policy: Improve soil fertility management by increasing supply of compost and FYM and reducing the stock density of livestock on arable land.

 

Action:

a) Encourage planting of trees, shrubs and grasses on private land to provide an additional sources fodder for livestock.

b) Encourage stall- feeding in appropriate places.

c) Promote low-cost, vegetative and cultural soil conservation measures to reduce soil erosion.

 

2. Policy: Promote Policies to directly increase soil fertility.

 

Action:

a) Encourage modification of existing farming systems to include nitrogen fixing species to enhance nutrient cycle.

b) Develop recommended fertilizer applications, including the application of recommended lime on acidic soils.

 

3. Policy: Develop an effective extension systems capable responding farmer’s needs.

Action:

a) Promote the use of adaptive research technologies on farms as method of rapidly disseminating information.

b) Improve participation in agricultural extension through the use of group approach.
