Introduction

The overall goal of an animal disease emergency response is to control the spread of disease. This may include the need to depopulate any infected and exposed animals. In these situations, animals must be handled and euthanized humanely. Proper disposal of the animal carcasses and associated materials (e.g., bedding, manure) will also be necessary to ensure the disease does not spread.  For proper disposal of carcass, a lawful approach is desirable. For this, the procedures spelled in the prevailing national law should be followed. The procedure of disposal should be safe and environment friendly. The persons handling carcasses/unsound meat and disinfectants should wear protective clothing (PPE) and should be properly equipped to complete the tasks of disposition and disinfection. The method of disposal should avoid contamination of soil, air, and water. Hides and other parts of animals that have succumbed to infectious diseases or toxins should be safely disposed and not retained for use.
