Threats on environment

Threats on environment can be classified as:

a) Policy induced (policy and management weakness) :

  • Immigration and population growth.
  • Past resettlement programs during and after malaria eradication program
  • Land fragmentation
  • Energy policy.
  • Lack of economic incentives.
  • Poor people cannot afford alternative energy.

 

b) Nature induced:

  • Threats specially in protected areas, succession, flood and other natural disasters

c) Human activities induced: these can be;

  • Over grazing
  • Grass harvest in protected areas
  • Demand pressure of fodder and fuel wood
  • Livestock depredation and crop raiding.
  • Poaching
  • Pollution
  • Poisoning
  • Exotic species

 

d) Problems associated with implementing developmental activities:

  • Population pressure.
  • Low public awareness and participation
  • Poverty
  • Weak institutional, administrative planning and management capacities.
  • Lack of integrated land and water use planning
  • Inadequate data and information management.
  • Inadequate plan and policies with implantation
