Threats on environment
Threats on environment can be classified as:
a) Policy induced (policy and management weakness) :
- Immigration and population growth.
- Past resettlement programs during and after malaria eradication program
- Land fragmentation
- Energy policy.
- Lack of economic incentives.
- Poor people cannot afford alternative energy.
b) Nature induced:
- Threats specially in protected areas, succession, flood and other natural disasters
c) Human activities induced: these can be;
- Over grazing
- Grass harvest in protected areas
- Demand pressure of fodder and fuel wood
- Livestock depredation and crop raiding.
- Poaching
- Pollution
- Poisoning
- Exotic species
d) Problems associated with implementing developmental activities:
- Population pressure.
- Low public awareness and participation
- Poverty
- Weak institutional, administrative planning and management capacities.
- Lack of integrated land and water use planning
- Inadequate data and information management.
- Inadequate plan and policies with implantation
