Blocking

  • Refers to arrangement of experimental units into blocks consisting units that are similar to one another.
  • Done to control variation in an experiment by accounting for spatial effects.
  • Rules of blocking includes the following:

i) carefully examine the situation and identify those factors which are known to affect proposed situation.

ii) Choose one or two factors as basis for creating block.

  • Blocking factors are sometimes referred to as disturbing factors.
