Morphology of root system

  • Root contains fibrous root system and in this system primary root is short lived and is replaced by thin fibre like roots.
  • In well drained soil , the coleorhizza emerges first in submerged low land condition, coleptile emerges first than coleorhiza.
  • The primary embryonic root or primary root comes out through the coleorhizae which usually dries within a month and it is compensated by development of crown root from lower nodes.
  • Coleorhiza is a protective covering of radicle.
  • Coleoptile is protective covering of plumule.
  • Crown root and its lateral branches are mainly responsible for uptake of nutrients and water from the soil.
