Bacterial disease
Tail rot or fin rot:
- Causative agent is Flexibacter columnaris
- Most contagious bacterial disease of carps and results in the putrefaction of tail or other fins.
Symptoms:
- More or less distinct white line is seen at the margin of fin in early stages of the disease.
- Line moves towards the base of the fin and the fin becomes torn, and after sometime the entire fin is completely destroyed.
- In sever stage, the infection may spread on the body and invade the connective tissue too.
Control measures
- Oxytetracycline or Terramycin orally @ 7.5 g (active) per 100 kg feed per day for 2 weeks.
- Dip treatment for one minute in 500 ppm CuSO4
