Types of Parasitoids
i. Egg Parasitoids:
Female of adult parasitoid lay eggs into the eggs of the host in which parasitoids larvae after hatching feed on the egg content of the host and emerged themselves. E.g.Trichogramma achaeae, T. chilonis.
ii. Larval Parasitoids
Female of adult parasitoid lay eggs into the larvae of the host from which parasitoids develops by feeding and killing the larvae of the host. E. g. Ichneumonid wasps, Apanteles glomeratus, Macrocentrus etc.
III. Pupal Parasitoids
Female of adult parasitoid lay eggs into the pupa of the host from which parasitoids develops by feeding and killing the larvae of the host. E.g. Tricholyga sorbillans, T. bomycis, Xanthopimpla predator.
iv. Adult Parasitoids
Adult female of parasitoids lay egg into the adult of the host, but it is very rare in nature. E.g. Mud wasps.
