History of IPM
- 1939: Insecticide properties of DDT was identified by Paul Muller
- 1948: Novel prize provide to Muller
- 1962: “Silent Spring” by Rachel Suits. She describes in her book about negative impact of chemical pesticide on organism and environment.
- 1960’s : First time used term IPM
- 1972-80: FAO develop IPM program as National IPM program in Indonesia
Different phase of IPM
- Subsistence Phase: Traditional agriculture, no chemical pesticide.
- Exploitation Phase: More use of resource, green revolution era, high input for maximum production.
- Crisis Phase: Pest outbreak, pest resistance develops.
- IPM Phase: Minimum pesticide use, priority to non-chemical method for pest control.
- Organic Phase: No use of chemical, priority to nature.
