Eucalyptus (Masala)             Eucalyptus camaldulensis

  • It is native of Australia, and has many species.
  • Successfully grown up to 1700 meters altitude in Nagarkot.
  • Almost all eucalyptus are evergreen.
  • Have light shading effects to under-storey crops.
  • It can not tolerate shade.
  • Fast growing species.
  • Many eucalyptus in Australia produce high quality sawn timber, but in Nepal it produces medium quality timber and fire wood.
  • It is now used for making electric poles after treatment.
  • Cross-pollination occurred in eucalyptus. Therefore, seeds should not be collected from trees growing with other eucalyptus species.
  • Seeds can be stored 1-5 years in sealed containers.
  • Seeds are very small, and therefore, it is sown in tray or mother beds. Young seedlings with 2 leaves emergence will be transplanted in polybags.
  • Regular weeding is in weed problem areas.
  • Boron deficiency can be reduced using borax fertilizer.
  • Intensively managed eucalyptus plantation produced up to 40 m3/ha annually.
