New castle disease

• Also known as Ranikhet disease
• Contagious viral disease causing respiratory, nervous and digestive disorder
• Birds of all ages are susceptible

a) Etiology:

• Paramyxo-virus-1

b) Transmission:

• Secretions, faeces
• Ingestion of contaminated feed and water
• Fomites
• Inhalation

c) Symptoms:

• Greenish diarrhoea
• Incubation period: 2-15 days
• Gasping, coughing
• Paralysis
• Cessation of egg production
• High mortality and morbidity
• Haemorrhagic ulcer in intestine

d) Diagnosis:

• Symptoms and lesions
• Serological test
• Immunological test
