New castle disease
- Also known as Ranikhet disease
- Contagious viral disease causing respiratory, nervous and digestive disorder
- Birds of all ages are susceptible
a) Etiology:
- Paramyxo-virus-1
b) Transmission:
- Secretions, faeces
- Ingestion of contaminated feed and water
- Fomites
- Inhalation
c) Symptoms:
- Greenish diarrhoea
- Incubation period: 2-15 days
- Gasping, coughing
- Paralysis
- Cessation of egg production
- High mortality and morbidity
- Haemorrhagic ulcer in intestine
d) Diagnosis:
- Symptoms and lesions
- Serological test
- Immunological test
