Swine flue

a) Etiology:

• Orthomyxo virus ( H5N1 virus)
• Respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza
• Doesn’t normally infect humans
• Cause high level of illness and low death rates in pigs

b) Transmission:

• Close contact between pigs
• Droplets and discharges

c) Symptoms:

• Intestinal diarrhea
• Coughing
• Sore throat
• Lethargy
• Lack of appetite
• Sneezing
• Mucous nose/eye
• Weight loss
• Poor growth
• Pneumonia
• High fever

d) Prevention and treatment:

• Facility and heard management
• Vaccination
• Antibiotics
