Components of drip irrigation system
a. Head system:
- Consists of a pump and an overhead tank.
- Pump is responsible for uplifting the water and collect to overhead tank.
- Overhead tank helps in storage of water which maintains a head level of 5-7 m.

b. Central distributary system:
- It contains following parts:

c. Fertilizer tank:
- Present at head of the drip irrigation system for applying fertilizers in solution directly to the field along with the irrigation water.

d. Filter unit:
- It cleans the suspended impurities in the irrigating water so as to prevent blockage of holes and passages of drip.

e. Pressure regulator:
- Provides the pressure required to pass through the emitters.
- Provides the pressure of 0.15 – 0.2 kg/cm2.

f. Main line:
- Made up of PVC pipe having the diameter from 20-40 mm.

g. Secondary line or sub-main line:
- Made of PVC pipe having the diameter of 20-40 mm.
- A discharge regulator is attached in its head to control the discharge.

h. Tricle line:
- Made of PVC pipe having diameter of 10-20 mm.
- Distance between this line varies from 60-90 cm.

i. Drip nozzle or emitter:
- Allows the water to emit at very low rates usually in trickles.
- Distance between nozzle varies from 40-60 cm depending upon the crop.
- Discharge from one nozzle carries from 2-10 liter/ hr.
