On-site Consequences of soil erosion

  • Loss of fertile soil- loss in soil productivity
  • Loss of top soil: soil left behind has lower water-holding and cation exchange capacities, less biological activities
  • Dense crust, reduces water infiltration, increases water infiltration,
  • Fruits and foliage may be damaged by sandblasting effect

Off-site consequences

  • Sedimentation, pollution, flood can be included under off site consequences.
  • it creates the water pollution as well as lakes and rivers.
  • cause eutrophication by excess of nitrogen and phosphorus.
