Cotton

  • Also known as White gold.
  • Tropical, short day and sun loving plant.
  • Seed cake contain 40% protein.
  • Fuzz: Consists short unconvoluted hair.
  • Lint: Long convoluted hair
  • Seed of cotton are prepared by ginning (Mechanical separation of long fiber) and delinting (removal of fuzz).
  • Desiccation: dehydration of tissues. Done after 2-3 weeks of defoliation.
  • Gossypol : Volatile poisonous phenolic compound of which kernel contains 0.4-2%.

Types of branching in cotton
