1) Anorexia : Lack of appetite

2) Apo-enzyme : Protein portion of enzyme

3) Co-enzyme : Non-protein part of enzyme

4) Cotyledon : Area where membrane of the fetus and uterine lining are in close association so that nutrients and wastes circulate from developing embryo.

5) Dicoumarol : Anticoagulant agent present in sweet clover.

6) Encephalomalacia : Condition characterized by softening of brain caused by deficiency of Vitamin E.

7) Endemic: Disease found with regularity in a particular locality.

8) Eructation : Act of casting up of gas from the stomach by mouth.

9) Fistula : Permanent opening made in body wall of animal created surgically.

10) Heat increment : Increased heat of fermentation and of nutrient metabolism.

11) Hematopoietic : Agent that promotes the formation of blood cells.

12) Holocellulose : Carbohydrate present in plant cells excluding soluble sugars, starch and pectin.

13) Hulls : Outer protective covering of seeds.

14) Invitro : Within artificial environment, as with a test tube.

15) Invivo: Within the living body.

16) Iodinated casein : Product formed when casein is treated with iodine. Fed to cow to stimulate milk production.

17) Lysozymes: Substance present in human nasal secretions, tears and certain mucus. Also, in egg white that hydrolyzes polysaccharide acids.

18) Marbling: Fat deposits in the lean tissue in meat.

19) Mastectomy: Removal of mammary glands.

20) Offal : Parts of butchered animal that are removed in dressing it ( i.e. inedible parts)

21) Pens: Small enclosed areas in a building used for keeping animals separately.

22) Persistency: Ability of lactating animals to maintain in milk production over a period of time.

23) Pica disease: Deficiency of phosphorous

24) Putrefaction : Decomposition of protein by microorganisms.

25) Rigor mortis: caused by accumulation of lactic acids in the muscles.

26) Regurgitate: Remastication of food.

27) Respiratory quotient ( RQ) = Volume of CO2 produced / Volume of O2 consumed

28) Serum therapy : Treatment of animals by the serum of another immunized animals.

29) Staple length : Length of cut hair or wool of a goat or sheep.

30) Sternum : Breast bone

31) Tassel : Cartilaginous outgrowth at the base of the throat in some goats and sheep

32) Uremia: A toxic accumulation of urinary constituents in the blood.

33) Supernumerary teats: Extra teats ( more than 4) in a bovine.

34) Tessel: Cartilaginous outgrowth at the base of the throat in some goats and sheep.

35) Volatile fatty acids: Acetic acid, Propionic acid and butyric acid.
