• Degree of freedom are the no. of independent observations that has the freedom to vary in the data sample.
• The degree of freedom is n-1.
• Degree of freedom are important to make inference from sample.

i.e. Degree of freedom (df) = no. of independent observations – no. of population parameter.

• Degree of freedom affects the resulting estimates and the shape of the distribution.
