Factorial experiment

  • Two or more treatment analyzed at the same time.
  • The experiments that involve simultaneously more than one factor and each factor is at two or more levels.
  • Powerful technique for analysis of experimental results with more than one factor.
  • Done to study interaction.
  • Experimental designs like CRD, RCBD study only one factor but factorial experiment deals with more than one factor at a time i.e. fertilizer, battery and feed simultaneously.
  • Example: to make tea we must use three factors like milk, sugar and tea leaves.
  • Is a variational trial and not an experimental design.

Importance of factorial experiment

  • Assist to study combine effect of two or more factors when are used simultaneously.
  • Helps to study individual effect of each factor as well as their interaction.
  • Allows estimation of experimental errors in two ways.
