Normal distribution ( Gaussian distribution)

  • Probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean.
  • Data that are near the mean occurs more frequently than data that are far from mean.
  • Appears as a bell curve
  • In Normal distribution, mean is zero and Standard deviation is 1.
  • Skewness is 0 and kurtosis is 3.
  • Are symmetrical in nature.
  • Symmetric distribution isn’t always normal distribution because it mayn’t form two mirror images.
  • It is a continuous probability distribution which is bell shaped, unimodal and symmetrical.
  • The normal distribution of a variable when represented graphically, takes the shape of a symmetrical curve known as Normal curve
  • This curve is asymptotic to x-axis (baseline) on either side.
