International Union for the protection of New varieties of plants (UPOV) revised from Van Wijk et al. 1993

• Under UPOV 1991, a plant breeder is conferred the exclusive right to do or to license the following acts in relation to propagating material of the variety:

a) Produce or reproduce the material

b) Condition the material for the purpose of propagation

c) Offer the material for sale

d) Sell the material

e) Import and export the material

f) Stock the material for the purposes described above.

• General duration for PVR for trees and vines: 25 years
• Duration of PVR for any other variety : 20 years.
