Infectious Brusal disease (IBD)

  • Also known as Gumboro disease or AIDS of birds
  • Acute, highly contagious, viral infection of chicken
  • Seen only in chicken > 3 weeks
  • Inflammation and pecking of vent

a) Etiology:

  • IBD virus

 

b) Transmission:

  • Faeco-oral route
  • Fomites

 

c) Signs and symptoms:

  • Feathers around vent are stained by faeces
  • Pecking of vent
  • Ruffled feathers
  • Trembling and shivering
  • Sit quiet with closed eye
  • Loss of appetite
  • Whitish diarrhea

 

d) Treatment:

  • Dehydration therapy with oral fluid and electrolyte
  • Multivitamins
  • Biosecurity and farm disinfection
  • Sterilization of equipment
  • Dead birds disposed
  • Vaccination
