Marek’s disease:
- Disease of chicken
a) Etiology: Herpes virus
b) Transmission:
- No vertical transmission; only horizontal i.e by inhalation
- Through bites of beetle
- Airborne viral disease
c) Symptoms:
- Incubation period is 3-4 weeks to several months
- Unilateral paralysis of wings and legs
- Loss of weight, paleness, anorexia and diarrhea
- Red leg syndrome
- Swelling of wallet
- Iris of eyes becomes whitish
- Ulcers in follicles
d) Diagnosis:
- Symptoms and lesions
- PCR
- Serological test
- Tumor formation in blood forming cells
e) Treatment:
- Vaccination
