Marek’s disease:

• Disease of chicken

a) Etiology: Herpes virus

b) Transmission:

• No vertical transmission; only horizontal i.e by inhalation
• Through bites of beetle
• Airborne viral disease

c) Symptoms:

• Incubation period is 3-4 weeks to several months
• Unilateral paralysis of wings and legs
• Loss of weight, paleness, anorexia and diarrhea
• Red leg syndrome
• Swelling of wallet
• Iris of eyes becomes whitish
• Ulcers in follicles

d) Diagnosis:

• Symptoms and lesions
• PCR
• Serological test
• Tumor formation in blood forming cells

e) Treatment:

• Vaccination
