Absorption of food nutrients in monogastric animals

  • Absorption is the process by which digested food from the lumen of the intestine is taken into the blood capillaries.
  • The main site of the absorption is the minute intestine.
  • The inner lining of the small intestine has a large no of minute finger like projection called villi.
  • The villi are the unit of absorption which increases the absorption surface.
  • Each villi is lined by single layer of epithelium and suppress with many blood capillaries and a capillary lymph called lacteal.
