Phenomenon of absorption of food nutrients in monogastric animals
The absorption of food occurs by two methods.
i) Passive absorption:
It is absorption of the food from higher to lower concentration i.e along the concentration gradient. It is a slow process because it doesn’t involve the loss of energy. Complete absorption of the food is not possible by this method. So, some of the glucose , amino acid, etc. are absorbed passively.
ii) Active absorption:
It is the absorption of the food from lower to the higher concentration i.e against the concentration gradient. It is a fast process because it causes loss of energy. It causes the complete absorption of the digested food. During absorption, the glucose, amino acid, vitamins, minerals, etc pulls into capillaries while fats are transplanted into lacteas.
