Manure  and fertilizer application Method :

  1. Broadcasting : Spread uniformly over the entire field , convenient and cheapest method.

 

  1. Top dressing :
  • Application of fertilizers to the standing crop , Nitrogenous fertilizers in rice. Fertilizers should be applied after drying of dew .
  • If the leaves are wet during top dressing , Scorching or burning of leaves may occur.

 

  1. Drilling :
  • Placement of fertilizers in sub-soil layer by the help of plough having special attachment for drilling fertilizers.
  • The bottom of the attachment is joined to the bottom of the plough and through is  fertilizer is drilled.

 

  1. Banding : This method is suitable for upland condition where fertilizers are placed 5 cm below the seed and 3-5 cm to the side of row.

 

 

 

  1. Side dressing :
  • This method is also suitable for upland condition where fertilizers are placed along the rows after upland rice have started growing.
  • Nitrogenous fertilizers are generally side dressed in upland rice.

 

  1. Ball or pellet method :
  • This method is useful in low land rice where small balls of convient size are made and deposited into the soft mud field of rice at the depth of 8-10 cm between rows. Super granules or sulfur coated urea are also found.
  • For increasing yield with minimum , foliar application method is generally  used for loss of N.

 

  1. Foliar Application :
  • Application of fertilizers solutions containing one or more nutrients on the foliage of growing plants.
  • Can be done by using knapsack sprayer.

 

  1. Fertigation :
  • It refers to the application of water soluble fertilizers through irrigation water.
