Types of shock:

Mostly shock is divided into following types:

  1. Cardiogenic shock: it is mostly due to myocardial infraction (blockage of coronary vessels). Because of this obstruction heart cannot get the sufficient amount of blood and oxygen and cardiac tissues die and shock is seen.
  2. Hypovolemic shock: hypovolemic shock is due to decreased blood volume. It is seen during severe hemorrhages, loss of blood by any other means, loss of plasma, diarrhea and vomiting.
  3. Traumatic shock: if the shock is caused by the trauma even without loss of blood it is called as traumatic shock. It is due to loss of plasma volume.
  4. Septic/endotoxin shock: it is seen during the gram negative bacterial infection. These bacteria secrete endotoxin (lipid A or lipopolysaccharides) which cause vasodilation. Because of vasodilation blood pressure is decreased and there can occur shock. These bacteria can be e. coli or salmonella spp.
  5. Anaphylactic shock: it is seen during allergy where there is high secretion of histamine and other inflammatory substances. These substances also cause vasodilation and can lead to shock.
  6. Neurogenic shock: it is seen during the loss of vasomotor tone, deep anesthesia, brain damage. All these factors effect the vaso motor disturbances and veins cannot function properly.
