The signs of maturity are:

  • Matured canes are light; leaves turn paleness or yellowish in color.
  • When mature can e is tapped by knife or any other hard material gives a sort of metallic sound.
  • When a mature cane is cut in a slanting way and held against the sun, we can observe sugar crystals glistening.
  • Lowermost internodes starts cracking due to more sucrose percentage should not be below 16.
  • Top:bottom ratio of cane juice is about the same.(1:1 ratio).
  • The harvesting can be done manually by hand knife, axes etc or by use of tractor front mounted harvester.
