Government policies and laws

A) 8th five year plan of Nepal: the three main objectives of 8 th five year plan9 1992-97) was:

a) Sustainable development.

b) Poverty alleviation

c) Environment and resource conservation( MWDR/FWDR)

d) Provision of EIA

e) Comprehensive legislation for environment protection

f) Environmental education introduction

g) Awareness and knowledge built up

h) A high level environment protection council establishment

 

B) 9th five year plan of Nepal:

  • In the ninth five year plan (1997-2002), poverty alleviation was the single objective.
  • The significant feature of this plan was a separate chapter on 20 years vision again with poverty alleviation as the goal for long term development.
  • Focuses on women participation, community mobilization, environment education, EIA, pollution control standards, coordination and promotion of environmental conservation program and development natural disasters management information system.

 

B) 10th five year plan of Nepal (2002-05):

  • This plan has been formulated with the sole objective of poverty alleviation.
  • It has incorporated the directives and suggestions provided by National Development Council, the development aspirations of the people reflected during the deliberations and interactions carried out at different levels and has considered the impediments encountered in the implementation of past plans.

 

 

C) The TYIF (2010-2013):

  • the second in a row — has two major objectives that include poverty alleviation and establishment of sustainable peace through the employment centric inclusive and justifiable economic growth.
  • To achieve the objectives, the plan has also focused on generation of employment opportunities, development of infrastructures, inclusive and justifiable development, and good governance.
