Monitoring is designed primarily to:

a) Check implementation of mitigation measures

b) Act as an early warning system

c) Be a continuous measurement process

Environmental monitoring is one of the most important components of EIA as it is essential for:

a) Checking the implementation of mitigation measures in the manner described in the EIA report.

b) Providing early warning of potential environmental damage.

c) Inputs to environmental audits.

 

Principles of monitoring

Certain principles of EIA impact monitoring should not be overlooked. The following points need to be considered with this regard:

a) Indicators to be used in monitoring

b) Objective judgment on the meaning of monitoring data based on indicators.

c) Tangible conclusion based on information collected through judgments.
