Organizations and their contribution in study and research in climate change
- ICIMOD:
- The International Center for Mountain Development, ICIMOD is a regional knowledge development center serving the eight regional members countries of Hindu-Kush Himalayas region-Afganistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan headquartered at Kathmandu.
- Their work generally focuses on globalization and climate change with particular interest on fragile ecology of mountain and the livelihood of its people.
Practical Action Nepal
- It aims at improving the livelihood of poor and disadvantaged people thorugh sustainable development working on four pivotal areas.
- Reducing vulnerability by strengthening the ability of people to cope with threats of natural disasters, environmental degradation and civil conflict.
- Making market work for poor through availability of improved technology for production, processing and marketing.
- Access to infrastructure for poor(rural transport and energy, sustainable urban environment and healthy homes)
- Responding to new technologies to develop and adopt applications that contribute poverty alleviation.
- LIBIRD:
- Established on 1995, Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development is committed to capitalize on local initiatives for sustainable management of natural resources and to improve the livelihood of poor and marginalized people by:
a) Promoting participation of key players and stakeholders in research and development targeted to resource poor farmers.
b) Empowering the communities to sustain their livelihoods.
c) Sustaining the livelihoods through use of natural capital.
d) Promoting local knowledge and innovations of creativity and entrepreneurship.
- IUCN(World Conservation Union)
- Its main objective is to promote biodiversity conservation, environmental justice and sustainable livelihood in Nepal.
- Ecosystem focus on key areas such as forests( as a main resource base of Nepal to support biodiversity and provide key ecosystem services), fresh water ( resource poor people depend on wetlands for their livelihood), agriculture( promoting sustainable practices can conserve agrobiodiversity and enhance food and livelihood security.) and the target group are the most disadvantaged groups particularly lower caste people, women and minor ethnic groups.
