Types of pollution
A) Classification based on environment:
a) Air pollution
b) Water pollution
c) Agricultural pollution (insecticidal, fungicidal, rodenticidal, herbicidal, etc.)
d) Noise pollution
e) Radioactive pollution
f) Thermal pollution
B) Classification based on pollutants:
a) Non-degradable pollutants: Materials and poisons (aluminum, cars, mercuric salts, long-
chain phenolic chemicals, and DDT) that either very slowly degrade in the natural environment.
b) Biodegradable pollutants: materials such as domestic sewage, that can be rapidly decomposed by natural processes or in engineered system (such as municipal sewage treatment plant) that enhance nature’s great capacity to decompose and recycle.
