What is an EIS?
- An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a document that describes possible, probable or certain effects of a proposal on the environment, and alternative actions or proposals (options) that may be undertaken. This includes the option of a proposal not going ahead.
In drafting the E.I.S. the following considerations have to be taken into account:
a) The information must be clearly presented.
b) The information has to be presented for the different phases of the activity
c) Uncertainties in the prediction of impacts have to be made explicit;
d) The information has to be structured in such a way that the significant impacts of each alternative are highlighted
e) The EIS must have a summery, which is understandable for non experts
