Master Farm Power and Machinery – Notes, Case Studies & Practical Insights – with Rahul

Introduction

  • It is an equipment that generates thermal energy and transforms it into mechanical energy.
  • It is of two types:

A) External combustion engine:

  • Here, the combustion uses heat in form of steam, which is generated in boiler, place entirely separate from working cylinder.

What Is an External Combustion Engine?- Their Example

B) Internal combustion engine:

  • The combustion of fuel takes place inside the engine cylinder and heat is generated within the cylinder.
  • Power is derived from the fuel burnt within the engine cylinder.
  • Linear motion of piston is converted into rotational motion by crank using crank shaft in the fly wheel.
