Key Facts to remember

a. Centering and shuttering/ form work:

  • It is the process of attaching frame made of wooden or steel in columns, beams etc to support and to give a definite shape and size.
  • For column : removal of frame at less than 48 hours.
  • For side beam: removal of frame at 24 hours.
  • For beam if its length is 45 cm: removal of frame after 13 days.
  • For beam if its length is more than 6m. : removal of frame after 7 days.
  • For cantilever: removal of frame after 7 days.
  • Some more days may be added in winter season.

b. Curing

  • It is the process of addition of water or ponding of water in slab which is done for 7-10 days in order to keep the concrete wet to continue the chemical reaction between cement and water.

c. Dampness

  • Usually 2.5 cm thick with rich cement concrete (1: 1 ½: 3) i.e cement: sand (5mm size: aggregate (20mm size) mixed with standard water proofing matters.
  • The water proofing matters are found in cem-seal/ impermo and 1 kg cemseal/ impermo (DPC) in 1 bag cement.

d. DPC (Damp proof coarse)

  • Prevents superstructures from upward capillary moisture from the foundation.
  • DPC is provided at the plinth level to full width of plinth wall and quantities are competed in m2 (lxb).
  • DPC is not provided for doors and verandas.

e. Plastering:

  • 12 mm thick.
  • Unit : m2
  • Smoothing shapes and size of building.
  • Acts as thermal insulation.
  • Long shelf life of building.
  • Helps building by weathering.
  • For wall, plastering is done from both sides and deduction in windows and doors is done.

f. Skirting

  • 6mm thick mosaic layer over 20mm thick cement plater of 1:3 proportion of cement and coarse sand.
  • It is done for easy access to cleaning.
