Magnetic Compass
- A magnetic compass consists of a magnetic needle that points to Earth’s magnetic poles, helping to determine the direction of the magnetic meridian.
- The angle between the magnetic needle’s direction and a survey line is called the magnetic bearing of that line. The components of a magnetic compass are:
a) Magnetic Needle: Establishes the magnetic meridian.
b) Line of Sight: Used to sight the other end of the line.
c) Graduated Circle: For reading angles, attached either to the needle or the box.
d) Compass Box: Houses the components.
