Flowering and Fruiting

• Flowers are perfect, solitary, sessile, in advance of foliage, pink in color
• Flowering starts in first week of February and continues till the end of Feb
• Under low temp condition, swelling buds are injured at -6.5°C
• Sites which are free from spring frost are suitable as peaches bloom early in the season
• The flowering can be delayed by application of GA3 200 ppm before leaf fall or by ethephon to avoid the risk of spring frost
• Most commercial varieties are self-fruitful set good crops
• Fruit setting starts in the beginning of March
• Fruits are borne on one year-growth
• Peach is a drupe fruit and its edible portion is mesocarp and epicarp
• Endocarp is hard, stony that contain seed in it
