Grading, Packaging and Storage

  • Grading is done on the basis of fruit size and weight.
  • Generally, the fresh fruit is graded in three classes-large, medium and small.
  • Packing is done either in bamboo baskets or wooden crates. 10-12 fruits are packed in a basket. Paddy straw is used for padding around the fruits inside the package.
  • At 10-130 C, the fruits stored for more than 20 days at 10-130 C, do not store at less than 80 C, since it results in browning of pulps.
  • Mature green pineapple can be stored for 2-3 weeks at a temperature of 8-10 ºC and relative humidity of 85-95%.
