About Lesson
Harvesting and yield
- Generally, starts from the middle of June and continue up to August.
- Maturity indices include:
a) Two or more ripen fruits drop naturally or when color changes occurs or change in color begins.
b) The greater the swelling of the shoulders above the stalk attachment, the riper the fruit and ready for harvesting.
- Mango normally takes 90-120 days from fruit set to maturity.
- Mango grafts come to bearing in about 2-3 years but economic yields may be expected after 8-10 years of planting and may continue up to 40-60 years.
- Average yield is 8 tones/ha and may vary according to variety and locality.
- 1200-1500 fruits/tree is common and after 40 years productivity declines.
