History of fruit production in Nepal
- In 1937 the agriculture council , one fruit nursery at Godawari
- In 1948 Two Agriculture stations at Kakani and Parwanipur with horticulture unit
- In 1955 Horticulture section created
- In 1961 Horticulture research stations at Kirtipur and citrus research station at Dhankuta, horticulture farm Yagyapuri, Citrus research substation at Pokhara and horticulture farm at Dhunibesi
- In 1962 Horticulture Farms at Daman, Helambu Baitadiand Trishuli established
- In 1967 Department of Horticulture came into existence and remained functional until 1972
- In 1972 Division of Fruit and Vegetable Development, National program citrus and potato as commodity
- In 1981 creation of deputy director general of horticulture in DOA
- In 1987 position of assistant minister to look after horticulture development
- In 1989 Department of Horticulture was recommissioned
- In 1991 All four departments were merged to department of agriculture development and creation of Nepal Agriculture Research Council

- In 2000, Fruit Development Directorate
