Planting

  • Seedlings are planted in square system with spacing of 10m x10m.
  • June to August is ideal time for planting.
  • Pit planting is the accepted and common method of Planting jackfruit trees is square method.
  • Hexagonal system may be followed in less fertile soil.
  • In fertile soil a spacing up to 12 m ×12 m accommodating 70 plants per hectare will suffice for this fruit crop.
  • On average soil trees may be planted 11m apart. For grafted plants the spacing is 8 x 8 m.
  • The best time for planting, whether direct seeding or transplanting, is at the beginning of the rainy season.
  • If water is available, transplanting may be done in early summer so that the seedlings are established before the beginning of the rainy season.
