Acute inflammation:

  • It is an immediate and early response to injurious agents.

Aetiology:

  • Infectious agents: These include bacteria, viruses, fungi, chlamydiae, rickettsia, mycoplasma, helminths, protozoa, and arthropods (insects).
  • Chemical agents: These includes toxins, acids, alkalies and other caustic substances.
  • Physical agents: These includes burns, trauma, electricity shock, radiation, excessive cold and heat.
  • Immunologic reaction: Hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmune diseases
  • Nutritional imbalances
  • Necrotic tissue
