Heritability
- The ratio between the genetic and phenotypic variances for a character is known as heritability and is often expressed as percent.
- Heritability ( %) due to
Narrow sense (h2ns) = Va/Vp
Broad sense ( h2bs) = Va/Vp
Vp = Vg + Ve , Vg = Va + Vd + Vi
where,
Vp = phenotypic variance , Vg = genotypic variance , Ve = environmental variance , Vg = Vp – Ve
Ve = (Vp1 + Vp2 + VF1) / 3 , VF2 = Vg + Ve
Vg = (MS due to genotype – MS due to error) / R
VF2 = 1/2 D + 1/4 H + Ve
VB1 + VB2 = 1/2 D + 1/2 H + 2 Ve
1/2 D = 2VE2 – [ VB1 + VB2]
Hbs = Vg/ VF2
Hns = 1/2 D/ VF2
H(b) = (ΣXY – ΣXΣY/N)/ ΣX2 – (Σx)2/N
